Ah, Friday night leftovers! The night when you finish off the bottles of wine you started all week, but stuck a cork in it after thinking an entire bottle of wine wouldn't make for a very productive morning.  

​Um hum, doesn't happen often in our house.  

Wine stopper? What for?

But for those of you with self control, when your Friday leftovers are gone, we fully expect to see you over the weekend to stock up for the week.  Try something new while you are here! We have our weekend wine tastings from noon-5pm on Saturday and Sunday!

Boy, have we had a run of luck with the weather the last few weeks! While it's not exactly blue skies and sunny every day, I don't think anyone is complaining about wearing a light jacket instead of a parka! This little tease of mild weather will most likely come to an end before the 60 and 70 degree temperatures are here to stay, but it sure makes us look forward to spring that much more.

It's the time of year in our lakefront community where the holiday's, Winterfest and most recently, Valentine's Day are over.  Let's face it... this is typically when the "Winter Blues" like to take hold and have us looking for something to do over the weekend that involves more than a Netflix binge! It's been so unseasonably warm, our typical winter free-time favorites aren't even an option without any snow! 

New World Wine Shop invites you to countdown to spring by stopping out at the shop for a wine tasting.  We have a lot of great wine in the store and will start previewing wines to stock for the spring and summer over the next few weeks.  We always love your feedback and look forward to stocking the shelves with all of your input in mind.

Another great suggestion is to sign a group of friends up for one of our Private Wine Table Tasting events.  We have really created a great, relaxed atmosphere for friends, family and neighbors to come together and spend some time not just tasting wine, but sitting around a table and enjoying each others company in a different environment than "the norm".  We'd really love to have you and guarantee it's a great time had by all. 

So kick those winter blues and come taste some wine.  We're here... and you know where to find us!   

In your favorite chili pot combine:
2 Cans drained black beans
3 Large (28oz) cans diced tomatoes
1 Large (28oz) can tomato puree
1 Bottle of Clamato Juice

Slowly bring to a low boil

Saute' in a large skillet:
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
2 Large yellow onions (chopped)
2 Green Peppers (chopped)
1 Jalapeno (chopped fine)

When onions and peppers are cooked through, but not browned, add the following seasonings to skillet:
5-6 Tbs Old Bay Seasoning
2 Tsp Ground black pepper
1 Tbl Ground cayenne pepper
Salt to taste

Steam Seafood Covered:
1-16 Peeled /deveined medium shrimp
Optional: Crabmeat, chopped clams, mussels
Add one bottle of FLYING DOG DEAD RISE OLD BAY ALE

Add to Chili pot, simmer for 15 minutes

​Serve with a cool crisp Chardonnay or Dead Rise Ale

One of our most favorite weekends in Lake Geneva is back again! Winterfest starts this weekend, January 28th and keeps all of us in Lake Geneva and surrounding towns looking, and begging for more! Just when we thought the winter blues were upon us, the streets of Lake Geneva come alive and fill-up with talented snow sculpture artists for a week-long championship event.

In true Wisconsin spirit, we welcome not only the U.S. Snow Sculpting staff and competing artists, but we welcome true, hardcore Wisconsin weather.  Cold and snowy is how we like it! Full winter gear of gloves, hats, layers of flannel and fleece.  Nobody can "do" the midwest winters quite like we can here in Wisconsin... and nobody can "do" a nice, stiff Old Fashioned like the Bourbon from Central Standard Distillery.  

Why can't they do it like anyone else? 

Because they are also from Wisconsin.  February is childsplay to this Milwaukee based distillery.  So come for Winterfest and stop into New World Wine Shop for some face melting (literally) Old Fashioneds.

We just looked at the weather and the first thing that came to mind is it's going to be a great night to watch a movie or read a book at home.  Seriously cold nights like this call for a Hot Toddy! They are amazingly easy to make, especually when you go by the store this afternoon and grab some Stillhouse Whiskey.  Work your drink around the various flavors, or work the flavors around the drink.

Hot Toddy
1.5 ounces of whiskey, (brandy or rum work too)
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 ounce of lemon juice
1 cup hot water
Lemon wedge, cinnamon stick, or whatever else you want to ganish with

Combine the first four ingredients into a coffee mug of teacup.  Add garnish / flavors as you wish.
