How Long Does Wine Last When Open?

How long does wine last once I open it? It's probably the most common question among wine drinkers.  You opened a bottle of wine on Saturday night, you have one glass left -- and right around Wednesday evening you start thinking how you deserve a glass of wine to celebrate making it mid week.  Should I drink the rest of the wine from Saturday? Or open a new bottle and face possibly that one going bad before the weekend when you want the rest of the bottle.

As you can see from the chart, light white wines and Rose' are your best bet on longevity.  Full bodied white wines like Chardonnay however don't last as long as say a Pinot Grigio.  

Red wines last typically 3-5 days once opened.  Just make sure you put the cork back in and store in a cool place.  If I know I'm not getting back to a bottle of good red for a few days, I stick it in the fridge.  Did you know red wine is actually supposed to be served at between 60-70 degrees anyway? We like to store at room temp, but when opening a new bottle, we put it in the fridge for about a half hour to an hour before serving.
